"A painting like a good book should lift us out of one world and into another. I look to nature for my subject matter and believe that nature and art can lift us out of our anxious, frantic world and take us to a place of rest and renewal."
Happy, refreshing and uplifting are words admirers and collectors often use to describe Nancy Wernersbach's artwork. Her nature-inspired oil and watercolor paintings have been described as "windows to the outdoors".
Nancy's art career began at an early age thanks to her parents' gift of the big box of 128 Crayola crayons.
In 1981 she graduated from Southampton College of Long Island University in Southampton, NY with a BFA degree. Following college she worked in illustration, had her own stained glass company and enjoyed many years as an assistant to a fashion jewelry design firm.
Nancy has always remained dedicated to fine art through her watercolor & oil paintings and has been busy exhibiting, selling and winning awards for her artwork in juried art exhibits. Her work has been in solo and group exhibitions at galleries and cultural centers including the Salmagundi Club, NYC; Nassau County Museum of Art , Roslyn Harbor, Smithtown Township Arts Council, St. James, Old Westbury Gardens, Old Westbury, NY; the Long Island Museums at Stonybrook, Mistretta Galleries, Locust Valley, and Surtex at the Jacob Javits Center, NYC, NY.
Currently, Nancy works as a full-time artist and watercolor teacher. Recently
her oil painting "Drifters on the Tide" (see seascapes gallery) was accepted into the Salmagundi Club Non-Members Painting & Sculpture Exhibition, NYC. Her watercolor painting "Essence of Spring"(a close up study of tulips--see flower & garden gallery) was chosen as a finalist in Horticulture Magazine's Garden Art Competition. It is featured in the Horticulture 2011 Limited-Edition 13 month Calendar, available from GardenersHub.com.
